Shoe Guide: Fall 2014

Fall Shoes

Boots and boots and boots and boots!  And why not?  They are perfectly practical for the cooler weather that is upon us, and it’s not every day chic fashion and practicality find common ground.  They’ve taken just about every form possible and can work on your most casual days and your fanciest nights out….Ankle boots, riding boots, over-the-knee boots, moto boots and booties.  Take your pick…or 2 or 3.

Pointy toes in heels and flats are still ever present, along with various animal prints to wear with absolutely everything.  We’re seeing “cage” heels and lace-ups as the fresh, new silhouettes.  In keeping with the booming sporty trend, lots of sneakers are on the scene, from high-tops to slip ons and everything in between.

The shoe completes the look so don’t always go for the “safe choice”…  be bold, have fun and show some personality!

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is open to the public today, which means that those of us who don’t have Nordstrom credit cards can take advantage of their great sales on Fall merchandise. But I, for one, can find these sales super intimidating! Fall fashion is just starting to appear in magazines, and who really knows what they’ll want to wear next Fall and Winter when it’s still July?

There are a few ways we like to go about shopping for sales such as this.

The first is to buy basics. Do you have a brand of jeans you know and love?  Is your winter coat in need of updating?   Sometimes it’s hard to pull the trigger when buying basics because you would rather go for something new and exciting, but this is a great time to finally replace the old or worn out items you have in your closet with fresh versions.

The second is to take a chance.  Since we’re talking about Nordstrom here (with their great return policy), taking a chance is definitely something you should do during their sale.  Was there a trend last season that you saw but just didn’t jump on board with?  If you see it sticking around this season, now might be a great time to make the purchase.  Do you have a moto jacket?  Leather pieces?  Those are big trends that we loved last year and are sure to be back in a big way this Fall!

The third is to splurge.  Ok, I’m not saying to go spend all of your money on one item, but how often have you looked at a handbag or a pair of great riding boots and thought, “those are too expensive, maybe next year”.  Classic items you wear daily and for multiple seasons will be worth it when you finally make the purchase and get those great Frye boots or classic Rebecca Minkoff bag.

The fourth is to stock up.  Are you thinking about Christmas gifts yet?  I know it’s hard, but you can find great giftable items during the sale.  Think about accessories – earrings, scarves, necklaces – all things that are versatile and make great gifts, and you will be glad you have them come December!

So, here are some of our favorite items from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!
