Shoe Guide: Fall 2014

Boots and boots and boots and boots!  And why not?  They are perfectly practical for the cooler weather that is upon us, and it’s not every day chic fashion and practicality find common ground.  They’ve taken just about every form possible and can work on your most casual days and your fanciest nights out….Ankle boots, riding boots, over-the-knee boots, moto boots and booties.  Take your pick…or 2 or 3.

Pointy toes in heels and flats are still ever present, along with various animal prints to wear with absolutely everything.  We’re seeing “cage” heels and lace-ups as the fresh, new silhouettes.  In keeping with the booming sporty trend, lots of sneakers are on the scene, from high-tops to slip ons and everything in between.

The shoe completes the look so don’t always go for the “safe choice”…  be bold, have fun and show some personality!

Must-Have Fall Outerwear Silhouette….The Moto Jacket

We’ve shared some of fall’s biggest trends in the past several weeks, and we’ve shown this silhouette in almost every one of those posts (in menswear, paris, and leather to name a few)!  It is THE outerwear silhouette of the season, and we’re loving it in every way!  It’s the Moto Jacket (aka, the biker jacket or motorcycle jacket).  Most often seen in the leather, it looks great off denim, and adds a bit of edge to any of your basics.  Throw it on with jeans and t-shirt and your favorite pair of flats and you instantly have a chic, put-together look.  Here are 3 (of many) ways to wear it:

With denim and a striped tee. A perfect day-time look for running around just about anywhere.

 With black skinnies.  A great option for the office or a night out with the girls.

Try it over a cocktail dress for your next party or wedding.

If a moto jacket in black leather is living life too close to the edge for you, we’ve seen it in just about every fabric and color you could imagine!  Try it in a softer neutral or even a colorful leather hue….choose an option lined with sherpa for a cozy more casual feel….or go for a wool version in tweed or even a sweater!

Mod inspired fashion has resurfaced once again…Twiggy, the 60’s, Austin Powers…depending on your generation one of those should bring images of this look to mind!  We would be willing to bet you can create this look with pieces you likely already have in your closet.  A simple shift silhouette, bold color, black and white, a peter pan collar, anything colorblocked…we know you’ve got one of those in your wardrobe somewhere!  Most iconic is probably the shift dress, and black and white graphic pattern.  Try one of these 3 looks to pull off your own version of Mod!
